Opening weekend of Seattle’s Link light rail | July 16 - 20

The long awaited light rail system connecting downtown Seattle to SeaTac international airport will start service this weekend on Saturday July 18th, 10.00 a.m. The trains will board the first passengers from Tukwila to downtown Seattle, with stops along the way in Rainier Valley, Beacon Hill, SODO and downtown. All train rides are free during the opening weekend with regular service beginning on Monday, July 20.

Seattle’s Mayor Greg Nickels wrote to the Climate Action Now Newsletter that work has begun for a light rail extension from downtown to the University of Washington. He said ‘..with the approval of the Mass Transit Now ballot measure this past November, we will bring light rail to Northgate, Bellevue and beyond.' He also said that the light rail will be a very different way of thinking about getting around the region. Indeed, this will greatly add to the many reasons that Seattle is the leading city towards sustainability and having sustainable transportation systems.
