Pike Pub Fundraising Event

Did you hear all that raucous cheering coming from the Pike Place Market last Friday night? It was because people were cheering for Sustainable Seattle, of course!
Ok, so it may have been rooting for the Cardinals… or the Rangers, since it was the World Series and all, but people in the Museum Room (the back bar) at Pike Pub Brewery, hand-crafted brew in hand, were supporting sustainability efforts whether they knew it or not, with 15% of all beer sales going to Sustainable Seattle.
Kicking off the night, brewery tours led guests around the restaurant and underground where the frothy goodness comes to life. On these tours, guests got an interactive taste for how Pike brew is made and an inside scoop on the business’ commitment to sustainability. Very cool!
The baseball game may have trumped the planned night of trivia, but everyone seemed to have an excellent time drinking great beer and supporting Sustainable Seattle’s mission of being a catalyst and resource for regional sustainability. Materials about our programs were handed out, highlighting
If you missed our fundraiser at the Pike Brewery last Friday night, but still want to support our efforts, have no fear! We are holding our annual Awards Dinner from 6-8:30pm on December 7, 2011 at the Duwamish Longhouse and tickets are on sale now here!
A big thank you goes out to Pike Brewery for hosting such an amazing event, with a special kudos to Tara Shuttleworth for all of her dedicated, hard work getting this event organized with us. We also couldn't have raised nearly $175 without all of those that came to support us-- so thank you for being there!

Annual Event a Tremendous Success
The event was the brainchild of Sustainable Seattle, POAGP(Pursuit of a Green Planet), Sustainable Central District and the many contributors and donors. It was an evening of fun, food and games and the ambiance at Hidmo was as per usual wonderful, homey and welcoming. (By the way the food at Hidmo is fantastic and I highly recommend the vegetarian plates.)
We had a large number of preregistered folks who signed up for the evening and more than expected showed up on the night of the event. The evening went swimmingly with the seven different "acts" flowing from one to another like tributaries to a great river. There was laughter, conversation, alcohol and connection and it was very good.
The night also featured performances from local music artists that included Young N Brave, a group of hip hop artists with a message of hope who happen to be on BET on December 22 on the networks landmark show "106 and Park."
We also were honored to have another local star Yirim Seck give us a performance that reminded me of a young Mos Def.
I can't explain how happy I am that this event went so well. We have been in rebirth for this last year and like the phoenix I see bright things for the organization moving forward. I'm not the only one as these comments from other members of Sustainable Seattle can attest.
Andrew comments:
As far as I could tell, everybody was having a good time and enjoyed themselves throughout the night. That was the clearest measure of success, but it wouldn’t have been possible without such great performers and attendees. It was a pleasure speaking with and getting to know many of them. Yirim Seck and Young-N-Brave’s conclusion to the evening was nothing short of awesome. Both artists were that much more impressive live than on record.
Tysan comments:
The annual event was a great way to recognize all the work that so many people have put into sustainability this past year. A crowd of our supporters and new friends gathered over music, laughter and drink to see performances and recognize amazing individuals and businesses who have made it part of their practice to be able to sustain not only themselves, but the planet. The mind-boggling number of contributors to our silent auction and the wealth of talents that the Sustainable Seattle family has got to be shown off, and I was so happy to be able to be a part of this organization for 2010. Collaboration with the Take Back Your Time and the ideas moving forward for the Seattle Area Happiness Initiative make me excited to begin work in 2011!
Tim comments:
There are so many parties to thank for the success of this years annual event I don't know where to begin. I will start by thanking those who were able to attend the event. The number of attendees was impressive and the hard work of many has paid off in grand ways! This event was a fantastic demonstration of the support Sustainable Seattle has again begun to receive throughout the Seattle community and I am confident this will continue to grow in future months.
The awards program and ceremony was deemed a huge success by all parties involved and would like to acknowledge and thank all of the nominees for their work towards improving the sustainability of the Puget Sound region. With all but one award recipient present we received great feedback and thanks from all award nominees and winners. I would again like to thank the judges for their brilliance and expertise, without them the program would not have been possible.
With so much momentum moving into the New Year I am excited for what the future hold at Sustainable Seattle and can truly say what an exciting time it is to be involved with the organization.
Congratulations and thank you to all! Sustainable Seattle ROCKS!

SEATTLE -- Sustainable Seattle, in collaboration with Sustainable Central District and Pursuit of a Green Planet (POAGP), will hold its Annual Event at Hidmo on Dec. 16, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. The celebration marks the year’s achievements by Sustainable Seattle and its collaborators and will feature food, entertainment and a silent auction to benefit the organizations.
The evening will be a series of acts that include local calls to action, musical performances, film screenings of Sustainable Seattle videos, artistic displays and performances, awards program winners and a performance by local Hip-Hop act Young & Brave.
Hosting the Annual Event is Hidmo, a community-focused restaurant, lounge and meeting space located in the historic Central District. The venue was selected for its connection to the community it aspires to build and maintain and its wonderful food, service and ambiance. This is the second Sustainable Seattle event hosted at Hidmo.
Many organizations and individuals have donated goods and supplies toward Sustainable Seattle’s fundraising goals and they include: Grand Central Bakery, Macrina Bakery, Gelatiamo, Honest Tea, Columbia City Bakery, PCC Natural Markets and Starbucks. Local artists and visionaries also donated gifts and services to the silent auction benefiting Sustainable Seattle and its partner organizations.

Sustainable Seattle’s Annual Event and Awards: An Evening in 7 Acts!
Get ready for Sustainable Seattle’s Annual Event and Awards: An Evening in 7 Acts! It will be held on Thursday December 16th at Hidmo from 5-9pm. You can register now. Joining us for the occasion will be Pursuit of a Green Planet and Sustainable Central District.
We have been working to ensure this isn’t going to be your typical “annual event” snoozefest. Attendees should be prepared to be engaged, laugh out loud, and not know exactly what to expect next. Gelatiamo, Macrina, and Grand Central Bakery have all graciously agreed to supply treats to keep our tummies pleased throughout the night.
After an opportunity for members of the audience to win a number of truly unique prizes, John de Graaf, national coordinator of Take Back Your Time, and co-author of the best-selling Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic, will help highlight our current work on the Gross National Happiness Project. Attendees will also have the opportunity to “figure out who”, as we highlight our volunteers in limerick form.
A silent auction will take place throughout the evening with proceeds directly supporting Sustainable Seattle. To see a list of auction items (still being updated), visit the event page. There you will also find out what each of the 7 acts will be for the evening!
Be sure to get your tickets and expect a memorable experience. We are all looking forward to it!

Fundraiser | Sweet Crude Movie | April 15th

Raise it! Your glass. Your voice. Your spirits. Your awareness. Cold hard cash needed to finish the film.
Join the filmaker and special guests at The Triple Door on April 15th for a fabulous evening of music and more. Two shows: 6:00 and 9:00 pm. Hear local faves, out of town friends and special surprise guests sing the songs that got the crew through the night on their way to Nigerian military prison one year ago.
Sweet Cruid tells the story of Nigeria’s Niger Delta, a small corner of the most populous country in Africa where billions of dollars of crude oil flow under the feet of a desperate people. Immense wealth and abject poverty stand in stark contrast and the environment is decimated. The issues are complex, the answers elusive.
